Northern Mindanao Mountains

In Northern MIndanao lies four of the top 10 highest mountains in the Philippines, three of which are in the Kitanglad mountain range. The forests of this range, together with those of Mt. Kalatungan and Mt. Malindang, are very rich in biodiversity. In fact, the Philippine Eagle is said to still roam some of those places. The mossy forests are also spectacular. Mountaineers from Luzon will find it a thrilling experience to climb in Mindanao; the local mountaineering culture is distinct and there are also tribes to encounter, such as the Talaandig in Bukidnon. In spite of security fears and apprehensions, Northern Mindanao is actually quite safe for climbing. It would be best, though, to coordinate with local mountaineering groups.

Fiesta Foods Philippines Cuisine

For festive occasions, people band together and prepare more sophisticated dishes. Tables are often laden with expensive and labor-intensive treats requiring hours of preparation. In Filipino celebrations, lechón (also spelled litson) serves as the centerpiece of the dinner table. It is usually a whole roasted pig, but suckling pigs (lechonillo, or lechon de leche) or cattle calves (lechong baka) can also be prepared in place of the popular adult pig.
