Speaker Daniel Romualdez Memorial Hospital
Established under Republic Act. 6527. Under the Act, Leyte Provincial Hospital, and Speaker Daniel Romualdez Memorial Hospital shall be merged. Section 2 of the Act states that the personnel of the three hospitals will be absorbed as well as their assets and liabilities.

RA 6527 further stipulates that this hospital in Leyte shall be directly supervised by the Director of Medical Services and will have a capacity of 250 beds. Leyte Provincial Hospital
Currently being renovated as part of preparations for converting it into the Leyte Medical Center. Lesmes Lumen, Provincial Board Member and Coordinator of the Provincial Health Office, said that it was the directive of Leyte Gov. Carlos Petilla to proceed with the upgrade of the hospital.

Part of the improvement, according to Lumen, is the addition of ten private rooms and 25 additional beds in the hospitals ward department. Likewise, this hospital in Leyte would procure new facilities like x-ray machines, a CT scan, and an ultrasound.

In addition, Lumen said that the funding would be derived from the provincial government while some would come from the income of this hospital in Leyte.

Dr. Jose Silao Memorial Hospital
Through a Memorandum of Agreement between the Department of Health and the provincial government of Leyte, the Dr. Jose Silao Memorial Hospital, formerly West Leyte Hospital, had undergone a major upgrading of its facilities.

The renovation of this hospital in Leyte is part of Gov. Petillas desire to find ways of upgrading the facilities and services of the various hospitals under the provincial government. The governor is trying to cut down on the number of patients being treated by hospitals in Tacloban. Hospitals here are not only suffering from overcrowding but also from lack of medical facilities.

With the signing of the MOA, new facilities will be constructed, modern equipments will be procured, and more medicines will be purchased on behalf of Dr. Jose Silao Memorial Hospital.

Once the renovations are in place, this hospital in Leyte would be elevated from a secondary to a tertiary hospital.

Southern Philippine Cuisine

In Mindanao, the southern part of Palawan island, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi, dishes are richly flavored with the spices common to Southeast Asia: turmeric, coriander, lemon grass, cumin, and chillies — ingredients not commonly used in the rest of Filipino cooking. Being free from Hispanicization, the cuisine of the indigenous Moro and Lumad peoples of Mindanao and the Sulu archipelago has much in common with the rich and spicy Malay cuisines of Malaysia and Brunei, as well as Indonesian and Thai cuisines.
