Freedom of driving ,not so tight traffic rules and lack of upholded law, make Jakarta a favorite street racing scene for the local street racers. This makes Jakarta as one of the prime cities that have a lot of racing spots around the city. The most visited racing spot in Jakarta is Asia-Afrika road in Senayan District. Drag racing is often done at this place with many street racers choosing to race here. Besides Senayan, Pondok Indah is also one of the places visited by many street racers. Pondok Indah is the most favorite place to drift for street racers in Jakarta as many people drift around this area, The U-turn and 90º degrees turn give people reasons to drift at this place. But not many people come to participate in drift racing, because not many have ideal drifting cars so people just come to see the drifting as it happens. Note that Jakarta's asphalt is not a very good quality.

There are also many Highway Races taking place on highways around Jakarta city. Jagorawi Expressway, Jakarta Outer Ring Road (JORR), Inner Ring Road and Jalan Tol Pelabuhan is where the most races occur. Many people can do races here without worrying about speed limits. Just like Wangan Expressway, Jagorawi Expressway, JORR and Inner Ring Road have no speed limits so people can drive at more than 200km/h. This is because the races take place at night where there is a lack of traffic, however there is a speed limit during the day and highways in Jakarta are usually jammed (especially at rush hour) by the excess of cars so it wouldn't be possible to drive any faster, let alone race.

Most race cars in Jakarta that are used for street racing include the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, Mazda RX8, BMW 3 Series, Nissan Cefiro, Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Honda Jazz and many other cars. People in Indonesia can modify their cars as they like because there is no vehicle modification regulations in Indonesia. But still, street racing in Jakarta is illegal and unlawful, the Indonesian National Police together with Traffic Management Center arrests anybody that is caught street racing around Jakarta.
